Holding special services, the churches have invited their MP, encouraging them to speak about their commitments to international development, and to hold them to account for their party’s promises on climate change.

Christian Aid say that the world’s poorest people – those communities who have done the least to cause climate change – are bearing the brunt of its chaos. It adds that ever more erratic weather is increasing the incidences of storms and droughts, ruining harvests and eroding gains made by poor communities as they try to work their way out of poverty.

St Catherine of Siena in Tilehurst will welcome Reading West MP Alok Sharma for a service to held at 9.30am on Sunday, October 19.

Organised by the Tilehurst Christian Aid Committee, everyone is welcome to hear Alok answer questions relating to Climate Change.

In Wokingham, All Saints Church will also meet at 9.30am on Sunday, October 19. Local youth theatre group Stage-Fright will perform some sketches, while Elizabeth Predo, CEO of one of Christian Aid’s Bolivian partners, will speak about her work to campaign on climate change.

John Redwood, MP for Wokingham, has been invited and an art installation will be on show.

Another service is planned at St Mary’s Church in Langley at 11am on Sunday, October 19. The church will welcome Slough MP Fiona MacTaggart.

For the Hunger for Justice service Fiona will talk about issues of social justice, in particular, the impact of climate change on the poorest in the world.
