Keep Fridays special – it’s a fun day during the summer holidays if you live in Crowthorne. Villagers are invited to come along and enjoy five weeks of fun in the Morgan Recreation Ground, off Lower Broadmoor Road.
Each week until Friday, August 22, the field is being turned into a family-friendly zone with a wide range of activities including climbing walls, petting zoos, craft stands and games to play. Reading FC will also be turning up with a special penalty shoot-out to help raise funds for its project in Kenya.
Refreshments, food and listening ears are also being served at the sessions, which run from 3pm to 5pm.
And best of all, it’s all free – although organisers welcome donations.
The initiative is being organised by members of Churches Together in Crowthorne and JAC (Just Around The Corner), as it has been for the past six years.
Different special activities run each Friday and there is something for all ages from young children to teenagers. Families are invited to bring picnics too and there is free parking available next to the Recreation Ground.
Organiser Dave Caddick is a volunteer for JAC. He said: “Anyone from the Crowthorne area is welcome to come down. There’s no charge.”
Asked why the churches are offering the free family activities, Dave explained:
“[It’s] just to integrate with the people of Crowthorne. It’s just to say we are part of Crowthorne and this is what we do.”
